Eragon Film Trilogy
According to Variety, Fox plans to produce a trilogy of films based on the fantasy novel Eragon, written by Christopher Paolini. The first film in the trilogy will be called Eragon and begins production on August 1st. The cast for Eragon includes Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Djimon Hounsou and Ed Speelers will play Eragon himself.
For those of you who haven’t read the book, Eragon is the story of a boy named Eragon who finds a blue stone which turns out to be a dragon egg. Eragon must become a Dragon Rider and battle the evil King Galatorix. Stefen Fangmeier will direct and the script will be written by Peter Buchman. Fox is looking to release the first film on June 16th 2006.
Having read the book, I have to say I never really understood what people thought was so great about Eragon. It’s a very cliched fantasy story really. I’ve read worse, but I’ve also read a lot better. That said, the straightforward and action heavy plot ought to translate well to movies.

If the movie will be as good as the book, I’ll be very surprised. Having read them, I would recommend them to any one who reads fantasy.
