A Scanner Darkly Trailer Available

So I’m two days late on this, cut me some slack I spent half of my weekend working. :) Anyway turns out that Warner Brothers have released a full trailer for their Philip K Dick movie adaptation A Scanner Darkly. Try to put aside (at least for the moment) that it’s yet another genre movie starring Keanu Reeves.

The movie is supposed to be a pretty accurate version of Dick’s story and features probably the most sophisticated version of rotoscoping that we’ve seen so far. Rotoscoping? Thats where they film something then draw over the top of it for an amalgam of animation and live action. Forget the lame commercials that have been cropping up recently, A Scanner Darkly is much slicker. Of course it helps that the weird, reality warping style rather suits the subject matter of the story.

Well worth checking out the trailer I think, even if it features Keanu Reeves.

The rest of the cast seems more impressive with Robert Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson, Winona Ryder and Rory Cochrane. The movie is written and directed by Richard Linklater. To quote the official site:

“A Scanner Darkly” is set in suburban Orange County, California in a future where America has lost the war on drugs. When one reluctant undercover cop (Reeves) is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode.
