ABC Pulls Invasion

Isn’t that typical. Its what all of a week since I posted that ABC was sticking with Invasion despite lackluster ratings. Even more recently, in a comment on this site I said Invasion was good till the end of the season but beyond that was up in the air. Wrong.

ABC Television has replaced Invasion on Wednesday nights with a new criminal procedure series called The Evidence. There hasn’t been any official cancellation announcement, but its seeming less and less likely that Invasion will return.

The new show The Evidence was slated to run for eleven episodes,, however there are only 8 remaining shows in Invasion’s timeslot so it’s pretty safe to say we won’t see any more Invasion this season.

I don’t know how many unaired episodes of Invasion there are, or whether there’s any chance at all that we’ll see them on air. Invasion is probably a victim of its own slowness. While there was an interesting storyline developing, it was taking a very very long time to actually go anywhere and the writing wasn’t up to the quality of Lost.

  1. Threshold cancelled, now Invasion… you’d think there was some kind of conspiracy to stop us finding out The Truth, damnit!

“Invasion is probably a victim of its own slowness.” That says it all. The show is now (Feb. ‘06) where it should have been last October! Anyone reasonably intelligent (or at least familiar with the genre) could see where this was going from episode one (can you say “Invasion of the bodysnatchers”?). The producers took so long to get to the one truly interesting and original idea (that the “hybrids” retained their human identities, memories, personalities and/or souls), that it was way too late.

Of course, the spate of “Lost” wannabees we’ve endured this year simply prove once again what Hollywood can’t seem to learn. Forget the “high concept”, the three keys to a successfull show are: good scriptwriting, Good Scriptwriting, and GOOD SCRIPTWRITING! (See, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Buffy, West Wing, Picket Fences . . . .)

My husband and I have decided we will no longer watch any new shows on TV until they
make it to the second season. Just when it gets good, we’ll never know who these
“invaders” are and what their purpose is. I hate it when a good mystery never gets solved.
As far as GOOD SCRIPTWRITING? If you think Lost is good scriptwriting, then I’m afraid
the rest of your opinion is questionable. Let’s see, hmmmm…. so far, we have learned
basically nothing about “the others,” and if you miss an episode or two, don’t despair -
it repeats itself enough, over and over and over, ad nauseum, that you’ll catch up faster
than if you miss two years of All My Children. Invasion had a good cast, Shaun Cassidy had
good scripts. The only thing missing is the courage of ABC to see this great show to
    the end. Cowards!!!

  4. Well you’re entitled to your opinion about my opinion. :)

However I didn’t say Lost was fast paced. It’s certainly very slow. But it gets away with it by being so well written that people are drawn in anyway.

Perhaps you disagree, clearly it didn’t draw you in, but the fact that Lost is heading for a third season and Invasion didn’t pull the ratings to complete one season says I’m not alone in my opinion.

I am with the lady & husband above. i have watched every episode of invaison but only a few of lost. i am tired of watching a interresting show just to have it pulled. Atleast i could follow invaison. Every time i watch lost i am just Lost over and Over. No wonder it’s called “LOST”

What a KROCK! Invasion is much better than LOST. You want to talk about slow LOST is very slow going. Not going to watch any ABC shows like that anymore.

I just started watching Invasion, Spent an entire weekend downloading them so that I
could catch up with its regular weekly schedule and now you are telling me its
probably canned$/”$%”/$?$%/$%&?%*&?(&*?$!”/!!”/$!$//?%. I can’t believe it. Damn. Is
this a certainty??? Has ABC made any comment on this?

The big 4 can’t get sci-fi right. I’m just going to watch Sci-fi Channel from now on.

Not since Fox wacked Firefly for Fastlane have I been so flumuxed.
This is a bad attempt to jump on the crime drama, CSI wannaby
heywaggon, once again shunning sci fi as mindless entertainment.
People who suffer over mindless repetitive jobs crave drama in their
entertainment, as we who deal in heavy drama every day need a little\
mindless praddle in our entertainment. Yet their are those who put
one above the other based on silly things like pride, morals, or
relig. Some people need way out stuff like Invasion, or Firefly.
Im tiered of defending my shrinking taist in shows. Invasion just
got good, Lost looks .. lost. Futuramma rules. bring that back.

yeah…Invasion was a bit slow going…but that was what kept me comming back..in that respect it is a bit like lost..three years running and not a clue whats goin on on that island..Invasion to me…oh so Steven Kingish…and i love steven king…take more than a bit to get going..can we all say character development? but when it does start to roll along…it ..what a ride…surface for example…was like two episodes in and already they bring on the cheesy cgi lizard critters..build it up some first..lemme see the lights and wonder about em..lemme see how the folk are changing…TV or otherwise…gimme a good story ya know? AND they wonder why no one watches the stupid networks anymore?? as was mentioned above..watch a few episodes of a show..it hooks ya…and its gone.or maybe even if it isnt gone…its on a week..then not..then maybe ..then maybe not..sheesh…
Hey…does anyone recall a few years back a modern Dark Shadows remake? first season was so good..then it was gone…go figure eh..stupid networks

  11. I cannot believe that a fab show like Invasion is getting pulled when Lost which is Lost in more ways then one is left for a third season what in the world are Fox thinking off.

  12. not cool not cool at all…i was so ready to see what happened to larkin after tom took her to the water when she go
shot after those friends of jesse’s broke in the house
i have been waiting since last september and now i here its been cancelled
what the heck is up with that that show was the one thing that i look foward
to every wensday night after comming home from work…i am going to cry

Well, hopefully they will put out the DVD with the unaired episodes like they did Nightstalker. Desp Housewives
was kinda boring last season and Lost has so many repeats between new episodes its hard to keep track of
when the next new one airs. I can’t help but to LOVe LOST though. People have put so much into the show, almost
like its really happening. What if it was. HAHA. BTW, has anyone been watching USA’s The 4400, NOW THAT’S A GREAT
    SHOW!!!!
