Amanda Tapping May Move to Stargate Atlantis

A while back I reported that both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis had been renewed for a further season, but at that time I’d heard nothing about any casting changes. Well now it seems that there may be at least one such change.

According to actress Amanda Tapping who plays Samantha Carter there are discussions about who to use her character in the next season. Tapping said that all the other cast members for SG-1 have been contacted about coming back for a new season except her.

The reason for this is that they are considering moving the character of Samantha Carter over to Stargate: Atlantis in the next season. Another possibility is to have her work on both shows, doing a total of 20 episodes, 10 for each show.

No decisions have been reached yet, but what is clear is that the producers do want to keep Tapping appearing in the Stargate universe. If Carter was either moved to Atlantis or split between the two shows, it’s not known yet how they would replace her on SG-1. One obvious possibility though would be Claudia Black’s character Vala who proved popular when during her episodes at the beginning of Season 9. At least one source is claiming that Black has been approached to appear in Season 10.
