Andrew Stanton Goes from WALL-E to John Carter Of Mars?
Filmstalker is reporting that Andrew Stanton will be writing the script for the movie version of John Carter of Mars. This is based on claims by Stanton himself so its pretty reliable.
And why is this interesting to people who don’t study movie credits? Andrew Stanton is the writer and director of WALL-E, Pixar’s latest animated movie. Prior to that he wrote Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Monster’s Inc. and Finding Nemo. The man has an enviable track record, but as far as I know it’s entirely with animated kids movies.

So what sensibilities will Stanton and Pixar bring to John Carter of Mars? Second question, live action or CGI?
I’m asking questions I don’t have answers to, but I have to think that anyone who can write that many really good children’s movies has something to offer us adults too.
For those who aren’t familiar with the John Carter series, it goes something like this. Civil War veteran John Carter finds himself transplanted to Mars which is a lush planet populated by 12 foot tall barbarians amongst other creatures. Captured by these barbarians he escapes and encounters Deja Thoris, Princess of Helium.
Based on the books of Edgar Rice Burroughs, this is really more fantasy than science fiction and as such perhaps the perfect setting for Andrew Stanton’s Talents.
