Aquaman TV Series Re-Cast

The CW Network (which replaces UPN and the WB this fall) has just announced some significant recasting for their new Aquaman TV show (apparently going by the title of Mercy Reef these days). Actor Justin Hartley has been signed to play the part of A. C. Curry who’s alter ego is Aquaman.

When the WB initially ordered up the pilot of the Aquaman show, the role was asigned to actor Will Toale. No reason has been given (at least publicly) for the change in casting.

Some additional casting is also known for the show. Denise Quinones will play Navy fighter pilot (and potential love interest) Rachel Starling, while Ving Rhames (most recently in Kojak) will play McCaffery, a lighthouse keeper and mentor figure for Curry.

Production on Mercy Reef (I really wish they would change the name) is scheduled to begin in mid-March and will take place in Florida.

I can see that they’re trying to cash in on the success of Smallville with this project, but I’m just not sure that Aquaman has the stature to make it work. What do you think?

Eoghann Irving is amongst other things the creator and Editor of Solar Flare. He has a life long interest in all forms of science fiction and fantasy and a pressing need to share this interest with anyone who will listen. Find out more at his personal website eoghann.com..

Ashamed to say I watch Passions and it seemed to me that the only reason that Justin hartley
was on the show was because he was married in real life to the most popular person on the show
