Winning Friends and Influencing People

So I’m at work, having another lovely day when I get a customer looking for a certain CD. Apparently on several occasions he was told to come back because we’d have it in “next wednesday”.

Well of course I checked to see if we had the CD and we didn’t. I explained to him that I couldn’t say whether we’d be getting any more. CD’s are vendor managed, not store managed. So…

JMS Star Trekking

So I’m randomly surfing the web following links from one sci-fi site to another (yup I’m that big of a geek) when I happen upon a blog entry discussing a treatment for a Star Trek series that Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski apparently had a hand in.

I won’t recap the whole post (just follow the link, thats what its for) but I found the news intriguing. I’m really not…

Fanboys Forever

Now first let me say that O My Fanboy Rampage is a very interesting site created by someone who clearly knows not to take himself or his interests to seriously (note to self, learn something).

However the recent entry The “Pulse continues to be where bullshit press releases aren’t tolerated.”, the link it leads to and the comments on it are another perfect illustration of why I can’t go to a…

Theft vs. Creativity

There’s an interesting discussion going on at Peter Davids blog about Michael Moore’s use of the title “Fahrenheit 9/11″ for his latest film and Ray Bradbury allegedly being unhappy with it.

Now this intrigues me not so much because I care whether Ray Bradbury likes Michael Moore’s politics or not (I really don’t) but because of the issue it raises about when its acceptable to incorporate another person’s work into your…

Smackdown vs. Raw

Here’s an interesting interview about the latest PS2 Smackdown game at IGN.

I’m a big fan of the PS wrestling games. There’s been a steady improvement in the games through the last several versions so I’m eager to see what the latest one will offer. THQ is keeping tight lipped on most of the details, but it seems that at the very least we can expected a further improvement to the…

Firefly Movie Website

The Official Serenity Site is now up and running apparently. For anyone who hasn’t heard yet (all one of you), Serenity is the big screen continuation of Joss Whedon’s shortlived Firefly series.

Now to be honest I really wasn’t very impressed with Firefly. It did show some of the Whedon flare, but I didn’t connect with most of the characters and the storyline never developed into anything significant. That said, I’m…

The Avengers on BBC America

I was very pleased to discover that BBC America is going to start showing The Avengers starting on July 9th.

I’ve always loved The Avengers. Its a uniquely British series I think, in its oddly twisted portrayal of the world. An attribute which grew as the series went on.

Unfortunately (though not surprisingly) it looks like they’re only showing the color episodes. That means we’ll be missing some of the best episodes…

Smackdown 06-24-04

Smackdown continues its run of very bland shows. Which is admittedly a step up on its preceeding run of bad shows. So I guess I should be thankful for small mercies.

On paper there were some decent enough matchups. John Cena vs. The Undertaker was the main event but despite featuring two of the most popular wrestlers on the show, it struggled to hold my attention.

The 10 man over-the-top-rope cruiserweight battle…

Stargate SG-1 Season 8 Spoilers

An interview at Sci-Fi Wire gives some information on what we’ll be seeing during the new season of Stargate SG-1.

Robert C. Cooper, executive producer of SCI FI Channel’s original series Stargate SG-1, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming eighth season will wrap up a few things. “To a certain extent I hope that fans will feel that at the end of this season that a lot the threads and…

Beyond Words

She lost the baby.

Its not entirely a surprise, there have been warning signs for the last week, but we were hoping it would all work out. The results had seemed to be getting better, until yesterday. My wife phoned me yesterday afternoon to let me know that she’d got the latest test results. Her HCG levels had dropped.

At that point there’s really not anything anyone can do. She’s losing…
