Book It Yourself
So my latest computer game addiction just happens to also feed my wrestling addiction at the same time. Two hits for the price of one, how about that?
Total Extreme Warfare is not (as one might at first think) a war game, but a wrestling sim. This remarkably detailed game allows you to play as the booker (and in some cases owner) of a wrestling company. It simulates all aspects of the business allowing you to hire wrestlers to various different types of contracts, book their matches to promote the ones you feel will make you the most money, tour countries to increase your promotion’s public awareness and much more.
In many ways this is an old fashioned sim. Its 99% text based with the only graphics being the interface and the ability to attach pictures to each wrestler if you choose to do so. Its also incredibly deep. Booking even a single wrestling show is not a simple thing. You have to consider the egos of the wrestler’s involved, what the crowd you’re aiming at enjoys, the limitations of your workers and of course what money you have available to you.
When you throw on top of that, health issues, worker contracts, tv deals, sponsorships and merchandise… well you can see that this isn’t a game that you finish in 1 or even 2 hours. Once you’ve taken the time to master the basics of the game though, it is remarkably addictive.
Being a commercial game (although only available on the internet) the roster of wrestling promotions and wrestlers that comes with the game is fictitious. Don’t let that put you off though. For a start the in game database is remarkably well rounded and makes for an enjoyable game. But on top of that there are a number of different groups of people all working on stats updates to give you real world workers if thats what you prefer.
The center of the Total Extreme Warfare universe is theTotal Extreme Warfare Forums where you can find out, not only more about the game, but the latest patches and updates.
