Captain Jack Spins Off From Doctor Who Into Own Series
Russell T Davies is set to write a new science fiction thriller for BBC Three. Torchwood will be a thirteen part drama series aimed at an adult audience. Davies describes the show as a British sci-fi paranoid thriller, a cop show with a sense of humor. He went on to say it was X-Files meets This Life (a reference that probably only British readers will get).
There’s a link between Davies new series Torchwood and his other current series Doctor Who. The link is actor John Barrowman who plays Captain Jack in Doctor Who. The story of Torchwood will be set up during the Doctor Who Christmas special. However the plan is to keep Torchwood stand alone and not have any crossover stories. Torchwood is intended for a more adult audience and will have its own identity.
Torchwood is about a group of renegades who investigate human and alien crime as well as alien technology which has found its way on to earth. Each of the 13 episodes will be self contained stories and several writers have been lined up including PJ Hammond (Sapphire and Steel). Like Doctor Who, the series will be produced by BBC Wales and short in Cardiff.
I can only hope that I’ll be able to find this one on Bittorrent somewhere too as I can’t see it coming over to the US any time soon and it sounds like something I’d love to watch. Thanks to Big Dumb Object for bringing this to my attention.
