Christopher Eccleston Quits Doctor Who

Category: Doctor Who, Television
published March 31st, 2005

Actor Christopher Eccleston will not be returning for the second season of Doctor Who. Eccleston will most likely appear in the Christmas special which was announced just yesterday, but not in the second season. Eccleston indicated that he was worried about being typecast and that he had found filming for the series to be extremely grueling.

Apparently the BBC is talking to David Tennant as a possible replacement in the role of the Doctor. Billie Piper, who plays the Doctor's assistant Rose is expected to return.

This news is obviously a blow as Eccleston was excellent in the role of the Doctor. Still we have at least another 13 Doctor Who stories with him.
