Constantine Trailer
I just watched the Constantine trailer and I’m in danger of turning into the sort of fan boy I really hate. You see its only a trailer, and thats not much to judge a movie on. Plus, it actually looks pretty good. But, Keanu as Constantine?
It’s been a few years since I regularly read the Hellblazer but I always found it to be an above average horror story. It was, literate, creepy and while not afraid of gore, it wasn’t simply slasher horror. The film trailer shows elements of that creepiness. It shows a style that is promising. But, Keanu as Constantine?
You see my problem? I’m in danger of becoming one of those annoying, whiny fans who refuses to like a movie version just because one element is off from the comic. But, Keanu as Constantine?
It just doesn’t fit. I mean, when I saw the posters I thought, well he’s made himself kind of look the part. Still too much of a pretty boy, but not bad. But then I watched the trailer and heard him speak. Its Keanu. And he’s not Constantine.
John Constantine is a miserable bastard. He can be selfish and petty, he can be downright mean. He’s weathered. He’s the definition of anti-hero. Keanu Reeves is so, so wrong for that role. Its terrible when you turn into the thing you hate.
