David Tennant Confirmed as New Doctor Who
BBC Controller of Drama Commissioning Jane Tranter has announced that actor David Tennant will take the role of the Doctor in the second season of the new Doctor Who series. David Tennant will start as the Doctor alongside Billie Piper who returns in the role of Rose Tyler.
David Tennant is a Scottish actor who has had a wide range of television and film roles. He recently starred in the BBC’s live broadcast of The Quatermass Experiment and has just finished filming his role in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire as Barty Crouch Jr.
Tennant already has several connections with Doctor Who, having hosted Doctor Who: A New Dimension which was aired rior to the first episode of the new series on BBC1. He also lent his voice to BBC Online’s Doctor Who serial The Scream of the Shalka.
