Doctor Who Audience Research

The BBC has released some audience research from the first season of their new Doctor Who series and its pretty good news all round for them. The average ratings for Doctor Who were an impressive 8.2 million and a 40% audience share. Figures like that are rare for any channel these days.

But it gets better, it seems that Doctor Who has held on to its traditional audience. The core audience was in the 35-44 year old and children’s brackets. In other words, it’s still a family show in a decade where such things really don’t exist any more.

Over 90% of the viewers polled said that Doctor Who was “good family viewing” though around 19% were concerned about their children being scared by the series. Even more impressive some 59% said that Doctor Who was better than other drama and particularly encouraging for the series future is that 82% said that they are very likely to watch the next season and 14 said they were quite likely to watch it.

So.. when is a US channel going to wise up and grab the rights huh?
