More SF cross-polination: Goddard/Plowman is Osiris from Stargate-SG1.
Much more of the backstory leaks out… How did they manage to make you feel sorry for a Dalek (well, I did anyway)?

This is a very clever episode, firstly for managing to make the audience sorry for the Dalek, and secondly for very tight use of characters, sets and plot. As with the first Alien film, one is enough, and the audience gets to know the power and invincibility that just a single Dalek holds.
The whole “Daleks up stairs” issue is handled fairly early on (although hovering Daleks had already been dealt with on-screen in the late 80’s, and had been described off-screen since the 60’s) and the effects are simply superb.
The plot simply races along, there is plenty of action, a bit of backstory and overall this is one of the best episodes of this admittedly excellent series. I’d like to see the bad guy’s PA (Anna-Louise Plowman) reprise her role in a later story, as she was possibly the most ruthless of them all. The plot also gives room for other Daleks and Timelords to return in later stories.
I get the feeling that some of the American accents might have been a bit hammy, but as a Brit it’s difficult to tell.
