The latter half of a two-parter, this episode significantly picks up the pace from “Aliens of London”. Okay, so the aliens themselves are childish and annoying, but nevertheless this is quite an action-and-suspense filled episode which really does rattle along at breakneck speed.
Penelope Wilton’s “Harriet Jones, Member of Parliament” is one of the better characters we’ve seen so far, and you wonder what kind of justice there is where such a butt-wipe as Noel Clarke’s “Mickey” can have so many repeat appearances in this series, yet a really good character like Harriet Jones gets only fifteen minutes of fame. Thankfully Harriet is rumoured to be reappearing in the 2006 season (series 29 or series 2 depending upon where you start counting).
As a high-velocity crash between “28 Days Later” and “Yes Minister” this is quite an enjoyable oddity, but very well done. Since both episodes of this two-parter are available on DVD together with the superb “Dalek” episode, this makes it the number one essential no-brainer purchase of Ecclestone’s series.
