Doctor Who, Second Season Commissioned?
Outpost Gallifrey has a report that a second season of the new Doctor Who series has been commissioned. On top of that the report mentions a Christmas special for the series.
However it should be noted that Jane Tranter, head of BBC drama Commissioning was unable to confirm at this point whether Christopher Eccleston or Billie Piper would be returning in their roles as the Doctor and his companion Rose. Eccleston and Piper’s contracts do include options to do further seasons of the series.
The second season and Christmas special for Doctor Who were commissioned a mere 3 days after the first episode of the new series aired on BBC 1 scoring an impressive 9.9 million viewers and winning its time slot against tough competition.
Also of interest, Jane Tranter revealed that audience research gave Rose a score of 81 out of 100 for how much viewers enjoyed the show. A score above the average for BBC’s dramas which is 79.
This is the sort of news that makes me squeal and embarrass myself in public! ![]()
