EarthCore Podcast Novel

Scott Sigler was nice enough to send me an email a few days ago about EarthCore his podcast novel. Which makes me feel all important because he felt Solar Flare was worth getting some attention from. I’m a little slow obviously, but life is busy (hey, help out and contribute articles!).

Anyway its a simple enough set up. This is Scott claims, the worlds first podcast only novel. I can’t prove that for certain, but I’m not aware of another one anyway. Its free, which is always a plus and from the description sounds like there’s a distinct pulp sf feel to it (which isn’t a bad thing).

The synopsis is as follows:

Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world’s record mine shaft, three miles under the surface.

EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company’s driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure.

But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting … and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.

I must admit I haven’t listened to any of the episodes yet, but I do regularly listen to mp3’s in the car on the way to work so I’m thinking I might download some for this week.

EarthCore apparently has an interesting history, originally published in 2001 by AOL/TimeWarner under their iPublish imprint as an eBook. A paperback release was supposed to follow, but iPublish was closed. Scott is obviously something of a pioneer when it comes to publishing in electronic formats.

Anyway, go to the website and check it out. It’s free, you’ve got nothing to lose and you may enjoy it.

Eoghann Irving is amongst other things the creator and Editor of Solar Flare. He has a life long interest in all forms of science fiction and fantasy and a pressing need to share this interest with anyone who will listen. Find out more at his personal website eoghann.com..

  1. Cool! Awesome I made it onto your blog. Sign up for the podcast already, or download the MP3 files. Right now my file host tells me I have over 5,000 downloads for each episode. Awesome! Oh and go to http://www.scottsigler.net/earthcore and vote for me so I can rank higher at PodcastAlley and I will feel better about myself.

  2. Well I have to admit that I haven’t actuall listened yet, but its on my list. I’ll plead my usual excuse these days. I have two month old twins so actually doing anything more complicated that turning on the TV takes about a week and a half. :)
