Essential SF
The good folks over at The Science Fact & Fiction Concatenation dropped me an email to let me know about a book that they have recently published in the UK. Essential SF is aimed at introducing newcomers to SF or to show the broader range of SF to those who have become interest in a particular series or film.
You can read more about Essential SF at Concatenation’s site. The author’s themselves say that this is not a comprehensive listing of the whole genre. Rather it is a concise guide to what is generally considered the best that the genre has to offer. This “best” is based on awards, polls and general longevity. While the book is published in the UK, they do offer a US mailorder price which seems extremely reasonable.
Science Fact & Fiction Concatenation themselves are a quarterly e-zine covering well a huge amount of science fiction and science news (I think the name is a giveaway on this one). Originally a print zine (from 1987 to 1997) it has been regularly published on the internet since then. I’d recommend checking out their website for lots more information.
Eoghann Irving is amongst other things the creator and Editor of Solar Flare. He has a life long interest in all forms of science fiction and fantasy and a pressing need to share this interest with anyone who will listen. Find out more at his personal website eoghann.com..
