Eureka - Sci Fi Channel Has A New Original Series

Category: Science Fiction, Television
published September 27th, 2005

The Sci Fi Channel has just given the go ahead for another original series. Eureka is about an apparently ordinary town with residents who lead extraordinary lives. SciFi's initial order is for a two hour pilot and 11 further episodes of the show. Eureka will star Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Greg Germann, Joe Morton, Debrah Farentino, Maury Chaykin, Matt Frewer and Jordan Hinson.

Set in a town in the Pacific Northwest, Eureka is about a community of scientific geniuses gathered together by the government to conduct secret research. The series is scheduled to begin production in January 2006 and will be part of the SciFi Channel's summer lineup.

The the pilot of Eureka, dircted by Peter O'Fallon, federal marshal Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) has a car wreck while transporting a teenage fugitive. While he is stuck in Eureka, the fugitive disappears in the aftermath of an accident caused by one of the towns experiments. Working on the investigation alongside the local sheriff (Maury Chaykin) Carter discovers the true nature of the town.

From the description, I'm really not sure exactly what to make of this. At first glance it sounds like its going to be another quirky drama, which is not a style I'm particularly fond of. However, I can't help noting that SciFi's last original drama series was Battlestar Galactica. So I'll keep my eyes open for more news on this one as we get closer.
