Solar Flare: Science Fiction News

So we already know that there’s going to be a sequel to the Fantastic Four movie that was released last year to mixed reactions. For the moment at least that sequel is going by the name Fantastic Four 2. For a while now there have been rumors swirling around this movie and what the plot might be.

The majority of those rumors have firmly centered on the possibility that the story will be the classic Galactus storyline from Fantastic Four issues 48, 49 and 50. There are fans out there who pretty much worship at the altar of that story.

Now it starts to get really interesting. A new rumor has surfaced and this one claims that Keanu Reeves is being looked at to star in a Silver Surfer movie for Fox. Apart from the fact that I’m annoyed that Reeves might lock in yet another classic genre role (he must have compromising photos or something), I’m kind of curious why they would be doing a Silver Surfer movie if they plan to use Galactus in Fantastic Four 2.

For those who aren’t familiar with the bit of Marvel Comics history, FF 48, 49 and 50 introduced the cosmic entity (he’s not exactly a villain) Galactus who eats planets. The Silver Surfer served as his herald.

So logically if you were to do this story any justice and not mangle it completely you should introduce Silver Surfer in the Fantastic Four movie (preferably using the same actor) before leading into a Silver Surfer movie.

And that doesn’t even touch on the fact that the Fantastic Four movie wasn’t really that good and they’re meddling with a comics classic with this storyline if they do it.
