First Annual Science Fiction Short Film Festival Launched
The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (SFM) has partner with the Seattle International Film Festival Group (SIFF) to launch the First Annual Science Fiction Short Film Festival. The aim of the festival is to promote awareness and appreciation of science ficton cinema.
Submissions for the First Annual Science Fiction Short Film Festival will be accepted from today through to November 1st 2005. Submissions may be up to 12 minutes in length and must have been produced after 2001 in order to qualify for entry.
Submissions will be judged based on originality, quality, artistic merit, innovation, voice, style and narrative. Submitted films that range from soft or social science fiction through to hard science fiction will be accepted, but no horror or fantasy submissions. A panel of film, television, literature and science fiction industry professionals and film critics will review qualifying submissions
The winners will then be picked by a jury which includes Oscar winning director Douglas Trumbull, Sci Fi Channel senior vice president of prgramming Thomas Vitale and physicist Lawrence Krauss.
The chosen entries will be screened in competition during the festival itself, which takes place Fegbruary 3rd and 4th 2006 in Seattle, Wash at the Cinerama Theater and JBL Theatre at Experience Music Project. The winning filmmaker will receive a pitch meeting with Sci Fi Channel executives for the opportunity to write and/or direct a two-hour film for the network. Further prizes will be announced as the festival gets closer.
