Google To Make Star Trek Available Online
As part of their plans for an online video marketplace, Google have announced a deal with CBS that will include the Paramount shows Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. The Star Trek series will be made available as part of Google Video which is a platform to enable the publishing of video over the internet.
The deal with CBS will include other series like CSI and Survivor. CBS has taken control of all of Paramount’s television properties following the split between Viacom and CBS. While Viacom owns Paramount Pictures which produced the Star Trek movies. Ever since the split it has been unclear which company will actually control the Star Trek franchise.
\This deal doesn’t really make that any clearer as the series being made available are not new properities. Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Star Trek: Voyager were existing CBS properties. Still it’s an interesting move and should the shows prove popular (and profitable) on Google Video it might further interest in creating a new Star Trek series.
