Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Breaks Sales Records
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has sold an astonishing 6.9 million copies in the US during its first 24 hours on sale. That eclipses the previous record for book sales in the first 24 hours which was held by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix sold around 5 million copies in its first day of sale back in 2003, but sales of Half-Blood Prince were an amazing 250,000 per hour on average. Because book stores had sold out of copies of Order of the Phoenix so quickly, Scholastic had increased the print run for this book from 10.8 million copies to 13.5 million.
Some people had questioned whether Half-Blood Prince could possibly sell that many copies, but with over half of the printed copies already sold, the answer is a definitive yes.
