HBO Looks To Alan Ball For New Vampire Show
HBO is looking to Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball to develop a new series for them based on the Southern Vampire series of novels by author Charlaine Harris. The development is part of an exclusive two-year deal that HBO have signed with Ball.
The world of the Southern Vampire series is one where vampires and human’s co-exist after the development of synthetic blood. In the first book in the series, Dead Until Dark, a waitress in rural Louisiana meets the man of her dreams only to find out he’s a vampire with a bad reputation.
Alan Ball, who wrote the screenplay for American Beauty has recently shuttered production on the fifth and final season of Six Feet Under. He will executive produce, write and direct the pilot for this new vampire drama.
I’m always a little leery of new vampire shows and stories as the Dracula mythos is pretty heavily played out. Still, every now and then someone comes up with an interesting new twist for the genre so we’ll see.
Eoghann Irving is amongst other things the creator and Editor of Solar Flare. He has a life long interest in all forms of science fiction and fantasy and a pressing need to share this interest with anyone who will listen. Find out more at his personal website eoghann.com..

I was so excited to hear this news. Harris’ books are wonderful. They have just the right
amount of humor, adventure and romance. I would sign up for HBO just to watch this show!
