Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Marvel’s Movie Plans
Slice of Sci-Fi reports that Marvels comic book movie Iron Man not only ranked as the number one movie for the weekend, but has already made over $100 million at the box office. It’s expected to do as well again internationally making it a genuine blockbuster movie. While Iron Man was always expected to be a success, these numbers are substantially better than was being predicted.

So with this huge success under their belts, what’s next for Marvel? Well according to Filmstalker, they’re planning Iron Man 2. Actually they have a whole raft of movies planned, some of which have been previously announced. For example X-Men Origins: Wolverine is due in theaters next May. But looking longer term they plan to have Iron Man 2 in 2010 alongside a Thor movie. 2011 is where it gets really exciting for Avengers fans with Marvel planning to release First Avenger: Captain America (That’s a working title thank god) in May 2011, followed by The Avengers in July 2011.
And if that doesn’t excite the comicbook geek in your life, I don’t know what will. Marvel has been setting the stage very carefullly for an Avengers movie. The Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America. Right there you have most of the founding members, and there is that Ant Man movie too.
