James Cameron’s Project 880 Details

According to an Ain’t It Cool News report, James Cameron’s Project 880 is in fact a retooled version of his previous science fiction project Avatar. Cameron has been working on a couple of projects in parallel, one being Project 880 (aka Avatar) and the other being an adaptation of Battle Angel. It’s still unknown which will actually be filmed first.

The story of Avatar was set on an exotic alien world and presented a romance between a female alien and a human-alien hybrid. This romance was set against a background of growing hostility from the peaceful alien race towards the humans who install an army base on their world and encroach upon their land.

You can spot some obvious parallels between this description and the colonization of the Americas with the way that Europeans treated the native people.

James Cameron’s Lightstorm Studios is working on both Project 880 and Battle Angel, with two teams prepping and getting ready to shoot both movies back to back over a three year period. Because of this there is no need to make the decision until the end of prepping.
