James Patrick Kelly Video Interview
John Herman has posted the first part of a two part interview with James Patrick Kelly on his video blog (vlog for short) The Eye. James Patrick Kelly is the author of any sceince fiction stories and won the Hugo award for his 2005 novel Burn.
In a step that is becoming more common, but still a brave move for an established author, Kelly chose to podcast Burn for free during 2005 and he has since podcast a number of other stories.
In Burn the inhabitants of Transcendent State, a colony of “true humans,” have rejected advanced technology for lives of voluntary simplicity on a world renamed Walden. They are threatened by the pukpuk, survivors of a previous settlement who seek to stop plans to cover the planet with healthy, dense forest by setting fires in the wilderness.
The first part of the video interview is very interesting and I’m looking forward to the second part. I was struck by how well edited and put together the video was. It definitely had the feel of a professional production. Well worth a few minutes of your time.
