Jeremy Renner To Star In 28 Weeks Later

It seems that the lead role in 28 Weeks Later (the sequel to the popular zombie movie 28 Days Later) has now been cast. Actor Jeremy Renner will star as Sergeant Doyle in the sequel according to Variety.

Renner (31) has featured in a number of movies including Dahmer, S.W.A.T and North Country. He has also had roles on the TV shows CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Angel.

28 Weeks Later will pick up 6 months after the end of 28 Days Later (thus the name!). In the first film a virus spread rapidly through the country leaving few survivors and reducing the victims into some form of zombie.

In the sequel Special Forces are working to restore order and repopulate London. Danny Boyle directed the first movie, but will produce this time and leave the directing to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo while the script will be written by Rowan Joffe.

Not much more is known about the sequel to original which starred Cillian Murphy and grossed some $70 million worldwide, but the expected release date is May 2007.
