Joel Silver About Alan Moore and V For Vendetta
Joel Silver was recently asked about Alan Moore’s position on Silver’s movie version of Moore’s graphic novel V for Vendetta. Early press releases for the movie had implied that Alan Moore was endorsing the V for Vendetta Film. Moore was quick to publicly correct this impression however.
Things got worse when Moore severed his ties with DC Comics (who had published Moore’s work under his own imprint). Moore then asked that his fee for the movie be given to artist David Lloyd who worked with Moore on V For Vendetta.
Silver’s only direct comment on the issue was:
“He doesn’t really want to be involved in this process, so he won’t be involved.”
Silver did go on to point out that David Lloyd did like the script and said that he felt it was a “faithful transition between the graphic novel and the script by the Wachowski’s” whatever that exactly means.
Normally I’d be very concerned that the original author was having nothing to do with an adaptation of his work, however this is Alan Moore, who is not an easy man to please when it comes to his own work. More importantly everything I’ve heard so far about this film is actually very positive, so I remain optimistic.
V for Vendetta, starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving, opens in November.
