Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell Best Fiction of the Year
Time has called Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke the best fiction novel of the year. Thats no small achievement. For a start Time has no particular fondness for genre fantasy or science fiction work, as is obvious from their short explanation of why it came first.
But even bigger is that Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell isn’t listed as the best genre work, just the best fiction. When you think about how many fiction books were published this year, thats some accomplishment for Susanna Clarke.
