Kelsey Grammer To Play Beast In X-Men 3

Actor Kelsey Grammer will play the role of Dr Henry “Hank” McCoy, better known as Beast in the third X-Men film. Grammer who is best known for his role as Frasier Crane in Cheers and then Frasier, will play the blue furred genius who has strength and agility to match his intelligence. Apparently Beast will play a prominent role in the plot of X-Men 3.

In addition to this news, it has been confirmed that Vinnie Jones will play Juggernaut and apparently the casting for Angel and Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat will be announced within the next few days. Variety has reported that Maggie Grace (Lost) has been in talks to play Kitty Pryde.

The casting of Grammer as Beast seems to have caught most people by surprise. On thinking about it however, it seems like a smart move. Grammer has shown with the character of Frasier that he can achieve exactly the sort of intonation and verbosity which will fit Beast’s character perfectly. How he fairs with the makeup and physical activity, we’ll just have to wait and see.

X-Men 3 is set to begin shooting in Vancouver in July with a planned theatrical release of Memorial Day 2006. The film will bring back the main cast from the previous two X-Men films and be directed by Matthew Vaughn.
