There’s been a boatload of Doctor Who releated news this week so I thought I’d gather it all into one post. Starting off with some news about Doctor Who Season 2. It’s now been confirmed that Zoe Wanamaker who is appearing in the first episode of season 2 will again play the role of Cassandra that she played in The End of the World in season 1. This episode is rumored to be called New Earth and will also feature a new race of villains apparently.

It’s also emerged that this time round Doctor Who has been given some extra filming days this year which will allow five backstage days an episode this season. Basically this should result in more behind-the-scenes coverage for season 2 than there was in season 1. Most likely this will turn up on the inevitable DVD release.

And speaking of DVDs, some information about the extras that will be on the UK Doctor Who Series One Boxed set. It’s now anticipated that the DVDs will contain all 13 episodes from Doctor Who Confidential, though in a cut down form that removes all references to the original series and purely focusses on the new one. There are also unconfirmed reports that an extra episode of Doctor Who Confidental might be included.

Additional DVD extras include Billie Piper’s Video Diary, Making Doctor Who with Russell T Davies, Waking The Dead (Mark Gatiss’ Video Diary). There will also be a range of featurettes: Destroying the Lair; Mike Tucker’s Mocks of Balloons; Designing Doctor Who; Laying Ghosts; Deconstructing Big Ben; The Adventures of Captain Jack. All in all it sounds like a pretty comprehensive coverage of Doctor Who season 1.
