Marvel to Become Film Producer
Marvel Enterprises has announced a name change to Marvel Entertainment alongside a whole bundle of movies using its comic book characters. The name change is the final step in a process that involved it raising some $525 million in order to start producing its own movies.
In recent years Marvel has seen huge success licensing out some of its top tier characters like Spider-man and X-Men. Even the less successful movies like Daredevil and The Hulk have done well for it financially.
Now Marvel Entertainment wants to start producing its own movies featuring many of the less well known characters that it owns. Marvel has signed a deal with Paramount Pictures to distribute and market these films, the first of which we can expect by 2008.
Marvel Entertainment will announce 10 films including the characters: Captain America, the Avengers, Nick Fury, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Cloak & Dagger, Dr. Strange, Hawkeye, Power Pack and Shang Chi. These will likely not be the hundred million dollar summer blockbusters that Marvel has become associated with in recent years, but rather lower budget films that take advantage of the huge library of characters and storylines Marvel has in its archives.
