Masters of Sci-Fi Anthology Series In Development
The people behind Masters of Horror, an anthology series which is coming to cable channel Showtime later this year are now working on a simlar show that will adapt famous science fiction stories. Producer Keith Addis hopes to have Masters of Sci-Fi on the air by fall 2006, but admits that currently no network has picked up the show.
The Masters of Sci-Fi anthology series will adapt short stories by well known science fiction authors like Harlan Ellison, Robert A. Heinlein, Stanislaw Lem and Ray Bradbury. The stories chosen were picked keeping in mind the budget of the series and the length of the stories.
Michael Tolkin will adapt Jerry Was a Man by Robert Heinlein. John Milius will work on The Hunt by Stanislaw Lem. Ray Bradbury will adapt his own story Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed. Harlan Ellison will also adapt his own story Repent, Harlequin! Said the TicktockMan (a personal favorite of mine).
This sounds really cool to me. There are a lot of great science fiction short stories out there that most television sci-fi fans are not aware of. Done correctly this anthology could simply blow away most genre anthology shows.
