Millar and Gough Leaving Smallville
Updated 4/4/08
As the creators of “Smallville” we look back at 7 amazing years. We look back at 152 episodes. We look back knowing that the show will continue into Season 8 without us. After much heartache and debate we have decided it is time for us to move on.
So begins an open letter written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the creators and executive producers of Smallville. You can read the full letter at KryptonSite.
The letter really doesn’t say much about why Gough and Millar are leaving. Nor does it say anything about who will be taking their place. But the bigger question really is what if any effect will this have on Smallville?
I have to wonder if the show has much of a future anyway. They’re talking of moving into Season 8 and there have been rumors of it ending for the last 2 or 3 years. It seems to me that unless the new show runners do something drastic Smallville is likely to end next year.
So what can be done to revitalize Smallville?
Update
The CW have announced that Millar and Gough will be replaced by Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson who were previously co-executive producers. So it seems they are largely keeping the same team in place
Also over at Action-Figure.com they have some interesting speculation about the departure of Gough and Millar.
Eoghann Irving is amongst other things the creator and Editor of Solar Flare. He has a life long interest in all forms of science fiction and fantasy and a pressing need to share this interest with anyone who will listen. Find out more at his personal website eoghann.com..
