New Villains For Stargate Atlantis Season 3?

This is a juicy little rumor. According to the Sci-Fi Heaven blog, there may be a new villain (or race of villains) on its way for season 3 of Stargate: Atlantis. Unfortunately the source of the rumor doesn’t give out any solid details beyond saying that season 3 will hold many surprises.

I’d certainly like to see a new villain appear on Atlantis. One of the biggest problems I have with the Wraith so far that they appear to be completely interchangeable. They all have the same personality and they all look the same. That makes for great foot-soldiers but it lacks something as the main villain of the piece.

So far, for me at least, Atlantis has been the poor relation to Stargate SG-1. It lacks the wit and originality of the latter. There are glimpses of how good the show could be, but then we seem to get sucked back into mediocrity. Perhaps a new villain or a new race could be just the shakeup the show needs.

I find Stargate Atlantis addictive. I love the characters and the plots and I
can’t wait for Season 3. I find the writing is excellent, with very funny lines
given to the characters. It’s a cross between SG1 and Enterprise. SG1 is in
their 10th or so year and Atlantis is still a baby comparitively and I think it
    will do wonderfully.

Stargate Atlantis may not be as witty but the story behind it is the most captivating
out of the two, it contains excellent characters, amazing new technology and information
of the ancients that we would never know if not for Atlantis.
The wraith are also a good race in this series, and as for interchangable, Micheal was
created making a new sub bad guy. The wraith may look the same but so did the jaffa
foot soldiers, the wraith main characters dont look the same, like the female ones all look
different and the ones we see in the last episode of season 2 look different as well.
    but these are your opinions

  3. Hey people, I’m from Bulgaria. There are a lot of fans of Stargate Atlantis here too :)
Me and my friends like the movie, the fact that every new apisode is in most cases with many surprises. And, as Cate says above - yes, it is definitelly addictive.
I think that such movies are rare nowadays. I barely find an interesting movie becasue for most of them I predict precisely what will hapen till the end before I have even saw half of the movie. So I’m searching for plots that are really unpredictable.
And Stargate Atlantis is really good from that opint of view.

I love Stargate Atlantis! However I do have some issues with it! First off… I never got into SG1. I loved the Stargate Movie and welcomed the TV spinoff and very much welcomed the Macguver guy as the main hero, but his character was written so sappy and playful that I was immediately turned off. He’s always making little, silly side comments as most of the characters of SG1 do and it just doesn’t ring true. It trivalizes the drama the characters go through. I understand humor is the intention but its just stupid. Compare the character Kurt Russel played in the Movie to Richard Dean Anderson, Russel brillantly plays a believable Millary officer (much like he played in the movie Soilder), while Anderson plays this flighty, jokey character who never acts serious. I realize it’s the writing not the acting, because Anderson was great in Macguver and played that character fantastically. This is really the underlying problem with the Stargate shows… silly characters saying silly things at inappropriate time! It’s like they decided to do a Sci-Fi Drama with a sitcom feel. It trivializes the whole experience. I can’t imagine Picard cracking a little side joke before the Borg blow up his ship. To take a note from Star Trek TNG… that show was one of the best Sci-Fi shows ever in my book. The show had great humor and the characters joked around but only at appropriate times. In Stargate they literally make a joke everytime they’re in danger. It just doesn’t ring true and its not usually funny. So for that reason I never got into SG1, but despite my loss of interest the show prospered and is going into season 10 which is a major accomplishment and I praise them for it! It’s also a testament to Sci-Fi Fans and the Sci-Fi channel.
So then Atlantis came out 2 years ago or so and I decided to give it a chance. I very much liked the premise of the show and the Wraith have been a entertaining foe. So now I’m official into Stargate Atlantis, however we do have some key problems still with the characters. Identical to SGI our main hero, Shepard, although not as annoyingly, does make silly side comments from time to time and realy doesn’t come off as a millary officer. Dr. McKay is also quite ludicrous. He’s a selfish, egotistical scientist who acts like a 12 year old. Again his character just doesn’t ring true. He’s always arguing silly things at the hieght of all danger, wasting critical time. Teyla is a great character although her dialoge tends to be a little forced and awkward trying to create a uniqueness inthat she’s from an alien planet. Ronin too I like and yet his dialoge is normal. Dr. Weir is actually the best written character on the show. She may not be as entertaining as Teyla or Ronin but her character rings true as the leader of Atlantis. Dr. Beckett is actually quite real and well written also. My advice to the Atlantis writters: Make McKay less whiney, keep him egotistical and selfish, but he doesn’t have to be complaining 24/7. Also make Shepard’s character more serious and miliaristic in the hieght of danger. Please no more silly side comments that no one would say when about to die! Other than the characters and dialogue the storylines have been great and that’s what keeps my watching week to week. I’m very excited for season 3. I expect they will bring out more of the romance they are brewing between Teyla and Shepard. Thanks for reading my soapbox! I welcome any responses you may have at teknoraven@hotmail.com
