Nicolas Cage To Executive Produce The Dresden Files TV Movie
If’ you’re a regular visitor to the site you may have noticed that I’m a fan of Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files series of books. So I was pleased to read that the Sci Fi Channel will be showing a two-hour tv movie based on the series next summer. The project will be produced by Lions Gate Television in association with Saturn Films, Nicolas Cage’s production company.
The Dresden Files tv movie is seen as a backdoor pilot and tells the story of Harry Dresden, a private detective and the only wizard listed in Chicago’s yellow pages. Harry does battle with the forces of darkness, with a mixture of magic, quick wit and sheer bloodymindedness. The script for the pilot was written by Robert Wolfe (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The 4400).
Nicolas Cage is just the lasted in a grown line of Hollywood stars who have teamed up with the Sci Fi Channel. Currently Bryan Singer, Dean Devlin, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Frank Darabont all currently have projects in development.
I think The Dresden Files is perfectly suited for a tv show. Not only does the wizard/private detective setup allow for plenty of stories, but the characters that Jim Butcher created almost scream tv series anyway.
