No New Star Trek Film?
Sci Fi Wire is reporting that Paramount has shelved the Star Trek prequel film that was being developed by Rick Berman. Apparently Paramount were unhappy with the way the story was developing and wanted the film reworked.
The original plan for the Star Trek prequel film was to use entirely new characters and a new setting. The film would take place prior to Star Trek: Enterprise (not sure how that would work). The most recent movie Star Trek: Nemesis did badly at the box office and Star Trek: Enterprise while getting better critical response still remains a ratings failure, to the extent that its future is in question.
Clearly in this situation Paramount must be getting very nervous about the future of its moneymaker franchise. We can probably expect a lot of dithering and naval gazing as they try to figure out what to do next.

Honestly, I’m a bit relieved. Give the series a rest. Let new minds and new blood in on it. Revisioning was the aim of Star Trek Enterprise and look what happened. I’m not against the concept of revisioning in and of itself (BattleStar Galactica is an EXCELLENT remake) but I think it needs to fall to people with more talent.

I can give a big/main reason why the show had poor ratings. UPN!!
I never watched one episode of Voyager because it was on UPN 9!
And I watched only about one quarter of the episodes, at best, of Enterprise because it was
on UPN. Better it had been on the WB like STNG and Deep Space 9,or fox, or one of Ted Turners
stations.
Who would watch anything on UPN no matter how good the show.
A good show on UPN? Isn’t that almost an oxymoron?

I think it’s unfair that other contries are not included on rating’s.
You don’t get UPN in the UK, so how can they say the show did bad.
I think Enterprise did well on Sky One, and Channel 4.
Still if a show is made or trashed based on One network’s results
then there are going to be more scrapped shows.
