Paramanout Refused Trek United Money
A high-ranking Paramount executive has apparently told Sci Fi Wire that not only is the studio not talking to the fan group Trek United but actually sent a letter to Tim Brazeal of Trek United saying that they would not accept money to renew the show.
“The decision to end the show is final” said John Wentworth, vice-president of communications at Paramount TV.
Trek United has been telling fans that it has had secret discussion with Paramount representatives about the show and that there is a possibility the show will return. Brazeal acknowledges receiving the Paramount letter but claims that the group is in talks with other Paramount representatives.
Trek United has apparently raised some $3.14 million in pledges and has said that donors will be given their money back if the show doesn’t return… minus the 5% handling fee to cover the banks and Paypal.
While that seems like a valid enough level of expenses, it just reinforces my view that pledging money to what seems to be an extremely unlikely proposition and with no idea what sort of show you’d actually get even if it did come back for another season.
