Paramount Drops Watchmen Movie
Variety is reporting that Paramount has pulled the plug on its film version of the Alan Moore graphic novel Watchmen. Producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin are shopping the project around to other studios along with director Paul Greengrass.
It looks as though Watchmen is a victim of the replacement studio president Donald De Line with Gail Berman in March. De Line apparently discovered that he had been replaced while he was meeting with Greengrass about cutting Watchmen’s $100 million budget.
It’s a rather childish habit for new studio heads to cut many of the projects worked on by their predecessors. God forbid they might turn out to be successful after all.
If this is true then we can only hope that another studio will pick up Watchmen which was shaping up to be a great adaptation of one of the greatest graphic novels of all time.
