Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest DVD and Blu-Ray Releases

Disney has announced that not only will they release Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest on DVD but they will also release it on Sony’s Blu-ray high-definition DVD format as well. The regular DVD edition of Dead Man’s Chest will come out for this Christmas, while the Blu-ray edition will follow some time in 2007.

Both releases of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest will feature a lot of extras including commentary tracks with “integrated branching” with talent from the film on one track and the special effects people on another.

Apparently the reason that the Blu-ray version is not being released in parallel with the regular DVD edition is that Disney are keen to wait for a wider market to develop for the new high definition Blu-ray DVD format. Many people are predicting that the next-gen DVD format will be slower to be adopted by a public that is currently very happy with regular DVD.
