Providing the Information That Sci-Fi Fans Need

PlanetFandom.com

J. Marcus Xavier, author of the Very Small Doses of SciFi & Other Amusement blog which I link to sent me an email the other day to let me know about a new project he’s involved in. PlanetFandom.com is a new website aimed at SciFi fans. The focus of the site is a little different though in that it aims to keep fans up todate with all the exciting developments in fandom itself. The official press release on the subject is as follows:

“Sunday, August 28th, 2005 marks the official launch of PlanetFandom.com, the fan-focused news-source designed to keep SciFi fans up-to-date with the latest info in SciFi fancasting, fanfilms and fan animation. PlanetFandom hopes to build a database of timely and accurate information about fan projects and happenings and be the premier authority on the web for scifi
fandom info. If you have a scifi podcast, blog, or fanfilm project in the works, swing by Planet Fandom and drop an email to editor@planetfandom.com. We’d be glad to post about your project, and add your premiere schedule to our database.

PlanetFandom.com . . . Hail To The Fanboys.”

I really like this idea. Lately it seems as though Sci-Fi fandom has been brimming with energy and really pushing the limits of what can be done without a big commercial budget. I’ve posted a few examples recently myself, including the Star Trek fan video series. But there’s a lot more going on out there than I can cover on this site.

This is the sort of project that can only succeed with additional input from the fans themselves though so I encourage you to check out PlanetFandom.com and if you have any related news, get in touch with them.
