Power of the Dark Crystal Gets Tartakovsky

Finally there’s some movement on Power of the Dark Crystal the sequel to the 1982 Jim Henson movie The Dark Crystal. The Jim Henson Company has appointed Genndy Tartakovsky to direct the new Dark Crystal film.

Genndy Tartakovsky may be known to you for his animated tv series, Samurai Jack, Dexter’s Laborator and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Tartakovsky’s Orphanage Animation Studios will now take the lead on the computer animation elements from the movie which will still be puppet-driven. Power of the Dark Crystal will now be a co-production between The Jim Henson Company and Orphanage.

Power of the Dark Crystal is set several hundred years after the original movie and will follow mysterious girl made of fire who steals a shard of the crystal.
