Raimi To Produce Sword of Truth Mini-Series
It seems that Sam Raimi who is currently best known for directing the Spider-Man movies has secured the rights to create a TV mini-series out of best selling author Terry Goodkind’s fantasy series Sword of Truth. Production on Wizards First Rule, the first book in Goodkind’s series, will begin in 2007 and mini-series based on the subsequent volumes in the seemingly never ending series will follow.
To date Terry Goodkind has published the following books in the Sword of Truth series:
Wizards First Rule - 1994
Stone of Tears - 1995
Blood of the Fold - 1996
Temple of the Winds - 1997
Soul of the Fire - 1999
Faith of the Fallen - 2000
The Pillars of Creation - 2001
Naked Empire - 2003
Chainfire - 2005
Phantom - 2006
Goodkind also published a prequel novel to the series called Debt of Bones in 2001. The series is very much in the mold of modern epic fantasy like Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series and with its familiar fantasy elements (dragons, wizards etc.) may actually translate quite well to mini-series format. There are a number of elements (we’re talking sex and violence here) that would have to be toned down to get on most tv channels.
I have to admit that I gave up on the series around about the fourth book. I could have lived with the less than original material if it wasn’t for the fact that the author very obviously padded and expanded the stories after the first book or two. In places the grafting on of a larger plot and threat is just painfully obvious. I might actually prefer it as a tv series though.

I am thrilled that terry’s books are making it to t.v. his books are capivating and thrilling and i garuntee that if you read one book you’llbe hooked.i just hope that the films will capture every element and detail that are in the books. i trust terry wouldn’t settle for anything less.
