Review: The Sarah Jane Adventures - Revenge of the Slitheen Part One

The Slitheen were subject to a lot of fan criticism when they first appeared in Doctor Who Season One. The farting was regarded as childish (and it is). So I imagine the name of this episode will make a lot of people unhappy.

However while Doctor Who is intended to be for the entire family, The Sarah Jane Adventures is firmly aimed at children. So the juvenile nature of these aliens is entirely suited to this series and the actors playing the Slitheen play up the role entertainingly.
The 30 minute episode length might be kind of limiting, but since this is a two parter, they had plenty of time to set everything up. The acting is of above average quality for children's fare, as it would appear is the budget.
The pacing is fast like modern Doctor Who and the triple cliffhanger effectively puts all of our heroes in jeopardy although the Slitheen aren't the scariest looking aliens (particuarly not the child).
Certainly people looking for serious science fiction aren't going to be terribly impressed by The Sarah Jane Adventures, but if you can just sit back and enjoy the ride, it's an entertaining enough 30 minutes. It's not going to break new ground, but I'll be tuning in again next week.
