RIP Andreas Katsulas
Actor Andreas Katsulas died on February 13th of lung cancer. Katsulas, who was 59 was resident in in Los Angeles at the time.
Katsulas is probably best known to science fiction fans for his portrayal of Narn ambassador G’Kar on the sci-fi tv series Babylon 5. Katsulas reprised the same role in several Babylon 5 television movies.
Katsulas also made several appearances on Star Trek, playing the Romulan Commander Tomalak in Star Trek: The Next Generation and more recently a Vissian captain in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.
Andreas Katsulas was born in St. Louis and held a masters degree in theater from Indiana University. Starting out in plays in St. Louis, New York and Boston, Katsulas then moved on to movie roles in The Sicilian, Someone To Watch Over Me and Sunset amongst others.
Katsulas took up residence in Los Angeles in 1986 and played many character roles in film and television. Other noteable appearances include Alien Nation, Max Headroom, The Fugitive and Executive Decsion.
I’m saddened to hear about Andreas Katsulas’ passing as I have fond memories of his years on Babylon 5. His remarkable ability to put such depth into a character wearing complete head makeup was one of the highlights of that show.
