Runes Of The Earth First Chapter Online
As a big fan of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, I was very intrigued to hear that Stephen Donaldson was planning a final chronicle. Well apparently he’s well past simply planning it now.
The Runes Of The Earth is the first of what will apparently be four books collectively titled The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. The first chapter is available at Stephen. R. Donaldson’s official website in Adobe Acrobat format.
Anyone who’s read the earlier books will see that Donaldson is writing in the same wordy style that he used for the original, rather than the more streamlined prose he’s used in some of his other works.
I’m honestly not sure if a third chronicles is really a good idea, since I personally felt that the first was far superior to the second. Still, after reading that short paragraph, I realise I will be buying The Runes Of The Earth when its available.

I loved the first series, but the second series was far and away the better, more mature, more stunning work.
The first series had, inevitably, a bit of Tolkien’s shadow; the second series was unparalleled in its images,
its scope, its risk-taking. The One Tree is a HUGE book full of amazing things … and teh quest fails!! Brilliant!
White Gold Wielder kills the hero, and while that’s not unique, it certainly was mmuch less common back when it was
written. I remember being floored by the Elohim and what went on on their island; it wasn’t until recently when
I read Pictor’s Metamorphoses (a Herman Hesse short story) last year that, for the first time, I saw anything that
might have been an antecedent. Anyway, the second series is by far one of my all-time most loved, and it was an
unmitigated pleasure to see that we’ll get to go back to The Land. I don’t care how we get ther,, I just want to
be there.
