Sci-Fi TV Schedule For 2008-2009 Season

SciFi Ranter Girl helpfully posted the season premieres for all the genre tv for 2008, a few weeks ago. For which I am grateful, because I always end up forgetting when shows start and if I don’t have a season pass set up already I miss the first episode.

So I created a public Google calendar based on the information:

The direct link to it is:

If you have information on any additional premiere dates for Genre shows, please let me know so I can add them to the calendar.

Of particular interest are the new shows (or at least new to the US in one case) that are premiering this season. You probably already know if you’re going to watch the returning shows, but here is some information so you can decide if you care about the new ones.

Primeval
BBC America
9PM August 2nd?? (Date and time unconfirmed)

BBC America has the rights to two seasons of Primeval. The first is 6 60 minute episodes and the second runs for 7 episodes. I’m not clear if they’re running both back to back or not. They are describing Primeval as Jurassic Park meets Doctor Who. Prehistoric creatures turn up in the modern world, anomalies rip holes in the fabric of time and zoologist Nick Cutter discovers that his wife (thought dead for 8 years) has been taveling in time.

Fringe
FOX
8pm September 9th

The big selling point for Fringe right now is probably that it comes from J.J. Abrams (”Lost”). It is described as “blurring the line between science fiction and reality”. An international flight lands in Boston, but the passengers and crew are all dead. FBI Agent Olivia Dunham investigates, with the help of a genius who’s spent the last 20 years in institutions. I’m definitely getting some Lost vibes from this.

My Own Worst Enemy
NBC
10pm September 29th

This one stars Christian Slater, which is a plus in my book and the core concept is at least interesting. Henry Spivey is an efficiency expert who lives with his wife and 2 kids in the suburbs. Edward Albright is a spy who can speak 13 languages, run a four minute mile and kill with his teeth. But what Henry doesn’t know is that they’re actually the same person. What happens when he finds out?

Crusoe
NBC
8pm October 17th

NBC says this is based on Robinson Crusoe, but I get the feeling that its more inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean than anything else. After being shipwrecked on a tropical island “encounters enemies and braves the elements” in a series “rife with action and comedy”.

Merlin
NBC
February 2009

I’m curious about this one because it’s a BBC production that claims to be family entertainment. The cast includes Anthony Head (Buffy) and Richard Wilson (well known to British audiences). But I’m not sure we need another series giving us Arthur and Merlin the early years. We’ll see.

Kings
NBC
February 2009

Now this one is very intriguing. Set in a “modern metropolis” which has been under siege for far too long. A young soldier saves the Kings son and sets in motion events that will bring piece. But his sudden rise to prominence brings with it both allies and enemies. Ian McShane plays the king.

The Listener
NBC
Summer 2009

This is actually a Canadian production about a paramedic who can read people’s minds.
