Scott Bakula Blames UPN For Star Trek: Enterprise Cancellation

Most of the articles I’ve seen about the Star Trek: Enterprise cancellation place the blame squarely on the people in charge of the show, but in a recent interview Scott Bakula who played Captain Archer in the series instead places much of the blame on UPN, the channel that showed the series. In an interview with the german magazine Space View, Bakula said this about the cancelation:

“definitely wasn’t because there are not enough fans anymore… We were at the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong politics. There are so many people who supported us, but those people were not at Paramount anymore.”

Bakula then went on to say he thought Enterprise would prove to be a hit on DVD and be watched twenty years from now.

Its interesting to see how bitter most of the actors involved in Enterprise seem to be about the way things turned out. I also find it interesting that Bakula is blaming UPN. Certainly this season UPN is in the middle of trying to rebrand itself. They’ve gone so far as to move one of their top shows (WWE Smackdown) off its Thursday night slot and into the Friday death zone because the show doesn’t fit the image they’re trying to cultivate.

So was the end of Enterprise ratings related or was it UPN politics? Either way, I still say that the show needs a rest though.
