SFPA Poetry Contest Winners Announced
The Science Fiction Poetry Association recently announced the winners of its first ever online poetry contest. The competition received a very respectable 277 entries from over 150 poets. Considering this was the first time this contest has been run and that sicence fiction poetry is a pretty specialized niche thats a good response I would say.
First place in the SFPA Poetry Contest was given to Malcolm Deely for his poem “Morning, Europa”. Deely has published eight books of poetry, painting and photography and is the editor of Nox, an Anthology of Dark Poets Against Abuse.
Second Place went to Ree Young for her poem “Office Complex, 13th Floor” while Third Place was given to the husband and wife team of Duane and Cathy Ackerson for their poem “Mice Over Fallen Mirrors”.
I’m not a big reader of poetry so maybe this is more common than I realised, but I think that’s the first time I’ve heard mention of a poetry writing team. It’s not that unusual with prose, but I guess I always had this image of poetry and a single person’s vision. But like I said, I’m not a big poetry reader, so it’s probably just my ignorance.
